GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team made history on Thursday evening with a win over the Lindenwood Lions 18-15 at Brownson Arena. The win is the first home win for the program in it's first-ever season and the second all-time.
Local standout
Kaylee Lacy picked up the first win of the night for the Mavericks. Lacy won by tech fall 14-1 over Alexis Altamira of Lindenwood. Lacy scored three four-point takedowns (feet-to-back) to stretch that tech fall while only surrendering just a one-point reversal. Lacy moved her record to 7-5 on the year.
Another local favorite
Carson Pipher earned a tech fall victory over Lion Audrey Elgarico 13-6 at the 3:34 mark of the match. The Paonia native scored a combination of takedowns and back exposures for the 10-0 win. Pipher improved to 14-6 on the season.
At 155 pounds,
Alma Mendoza earned a pin over fellow Washingtonian Mariya Gaither at the 1:57 mark of the match. Mendoza surrendered a takedown early but rebounded with a four-point takedown that turned into a pin.
The Mavericks are now 2-3 in duals this season while Lindenwood dropped their first dual of the season and move to 0-1.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action on Sunday as they will travel to the EZ Flex Open in Ottawa, Kansas.
