GRAND JUNCTION, COLO- The Mavericks put up two goals against Northwestern Nazarene Saturday afternoon at Walker Field. The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team found their second win of the 2018 season. The score at the end of regulation was 2-1. The Mavericks overall record is now 2-0-1.

Matthew Miller took shot attempts that were unsuccessful in the first plays of the match. Â Five minutes later in the 18

Kevin Chavez also attempted a shot that resulted in being wide. Shorty following this, NNU's Rafael Junqueire recorded his first goal of the season off an assist from Jake Levine. The Mavericks now found themselves down a goal in the first twenty minutes of the game. There was only one shot taken the rest of the first half. This shot was taken by the Mavericks

NNU lead the Mavericks 1-0 entering the second half.
In the first minutes of the second half the Mavericks were aggressive and took three shots just before the first goal was recorded by the Mavericks.
Kevin Del Mazo took a corner kick in the 52nd minute that reached the head of
Matthew Miller who completed the play and recorded his first goal of the 2018 season.
The Mavericks were now tied and three more shots were taken by the Mavericks. A third overtime this year for the Mavericks was avoided in the 75
th minute when
Lawan Abary recorded his first goal as a Maverick. This was the transfer from Western Nebraska Community College's first game as a Maverick.
Kevin Del Mazo blew by the Nighthawk's defenders to lead Abary to a great position where he was easily able to put one past the NNU's goal keeper.
With this assist Del Mazo has now tied the all time assist record at CMU with 22 assist.
There was only three more shots taken the rest of the game between the Mavericks and the Nighthawks.
Colorado Mesa is now 2-0-1 and the Nighthawks fall to 0-3-1.
Next Up
The Mavericks will start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend when they take on Fort Lewis College on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Durango. They will travel to CSU-Pueblo for a match Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
