Mavericks and Yellow Jackets End in Draw

Ashton Hall and Allyson Swain record their first goals of the season

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Mavericks ended Sunday afternoon's game against Black Hills State in a tie. The final score being 2-2. The two teams battled for 110 minutes but neither could net a goal in either overtime to win. The Mavericks end the weekend with a loss against Regis and a tie against Black Hills State University for an overall RMAC record of 1-4-1.  

Recap

Jessica Jolley recorded her first start of the 2018 season as goalkeeper for the Mavericks. She made 4 saves throughout the match all of which were in regulation.

The Mavericks took a season high 47 shots 14 of which were on goal. The Mavericks outshot the Yellow Jackets 47-13.

Black Hills were first on the board with a goal by Ella Goodman. She found her first goal of the season off a corner kick.

The Mavericks were quick to answer this goal.  After being subbed in one minute prior Ashton Hall netted her first goal of the 2018 season in the twenty-ninth minute. Taylor Jones was awarded the assist.

Allyson Swain also joined her by netting her first goal of the season just before half time. Taylor Jones was awarded the assist. This was her second assist of the game. This goal put the Mavs up 2-1 and the score would remain this entering half time.

The Mavericks took 16 shots in the second half but none would result in a goal.

In the last ten minutes of regulation Black Hills State tied the game with a goal from Rose Miller. This goal forced the Mavericks and Yellow Jackets to overtime.

The Mavericks took 14 shots in overtime and the Yellow Jackets took none. Despite the opportunities no Maverick found the net.

This is the Mavs second draw of the 2018 season. Previously this season the Mavericks tied with Humboldt State 1-1

Next Up         

The Mavericks only have one game next weekend. They will host Western State University Sunday Oct 7 on Walker Field. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
