Mavericks Defeat Western Slope Foe

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Mavericks defeated Western State 1-0 Sunday afternoon. The lone goal of the game was netted by the Maverick's Ryanne Parker. This is the Maverick's second win of the RMAC season and they now improve to a 2-4-1 RMAC record. This match was an important game for the Mavericks heading into the second half of the RMAC regular season. With this win the Mavericks have 7 conference points and are now in ninth place behind Fort Lewis who is ahead by one point. The top eight are seeded in the RMAC Tournament.

Game Recap

Emily Signorio recorded her second consecutive start and fourth of the season as goalkeeper for the Mavericks. She recorded two saves and improved her record to 2-2-0.

As a team the Mavericks took 12 shots and nine shots on goal. Ryanne Parker recorded a team high shots on goal with three. Parker, Zoe Peterson, and Hannah Naftanel all took three shots for a team high.

Parker recorded her second goal of the season in the 28th minute during the first half. Allyson Swain took the ball up field closes to the benches and passed ahead to Zoe Peterson who then found Ryanne Parker in the center of the goalie box. Parker faked her defender and netted the game winning goal of the match.

Western took three shots in the second half but none resulted in a net.

The Mavericks outshot the Mountaineers 12 to seven throughout the entire game. Nine of which were on goal.

Next Matches

The Mavericks will travel to Las Vegas, N.M. and Pueblo, Colo. next weekend for matches against New Mexico Highlands University and CSU-Pueblo, respectively. The match against New Mexico University will take place Friday at 7 p.m. Following this match the Mavericks will travel to play CSU-Pueblo Sunday at noon.
