Maverick’s win streak still alive after 2-1 win against Dixie State

The Mavericks are currently on a five game winning streak

ST. GEORGE, Utah-  Behind two Maverick goals Colorado Mesa improves to a 7-0-2. Kevin Del Mazo and Tristan Widic each found the net Sunday afternoon to push the Mavericks past the Trailblazer.

Recap

The Trailblazers Tony Foulger was quick to get the Trailblazers on the board by netting a goal in the first ten minutes of the match. This goal was recorded before a Maverick could get a shot attempt.

Kevin Del Mazo was quick to answer with a goal of his own nine minutes later. This goal was a result of a penalty kick and resulted in Del Mazo's fourth goal of the season. This was his third consecutive game with a goal.

The Mavericks took nine shots in the first half. Tristan Widic was subbed in half way through the first half and recorded the game winning goal in the final minutes of the half for his first goal of the season. Widic stole the ball from the Dixie defenders and beat another defender 1 on 1 to net the goal.

The score was 2-1 entering half time and would remain that the rest of regulation. The Mavericks and the Trailblazers each took five shots in the second half.

Briley Guarneri recorded three saves to add to his career and the Dixies goalkeeper Zach Nielson also recorded three saves.

Next Up

The Mavericks will return home next weekend for two matches at Walker Field. First they will battle with UCCS on Friday night at 7 p.m. Following this game the Mavericks with battle with Regis on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
