Mavericks come back from behind to defeat UCCS

The Mavericks are on a six game winning streak

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Mavericks came back from being down to defeat the Mountain Lions 2-1. This is the sixth consecutive win for the Mavericks. Chris Boyd and Lawan Abary each netted a goal to push the Mavericks past the Mountain Lions. There were two penalty kicks during this game. One taken by the Mountain Lions and one by the Mavs.

Recap

There was a slow start to the match on Friday evening. There were five fouls with in the first ten minutes of the game. Connor Lowdermilk got the Mavericks offense rolling with the first attempted shot of the game. His shot was too high for the net.

The Mavericks committed a foul that resulted in a penalty kick during the 40th minute of the match. No one other than the Mountain Lion's Alex VonHolle would take the PK. He stepped up to the ball and snuck it under a diving Briley Guarneri.

Following this goal Kevin Del Mazo took a shot to try and tie the game before half time but it would be blocked by a Mountain Lion defender.

The Mavericks entered half time down 0-1.

The Mavericks started the second half with three shot attempts before they too would get an opportunity at a penalty kick. Lawan Abary was dribbling the ball from left to right across the goal box when he was tripped by a Mountain Lion defender. A confident Abary who is one of the most offensive producing players in the country stepped up to the ball and put one past the UCCS goal keeper. This was the junior's tenth goal of the season.

Six minutes later Kevin Del Mazo took a corner kick that found James McGhee who assisted Chris Boyd's second goal of the season. The two were on the right side of the goal only just a few feet away from the goal line to net the game winning goal.

This was the play that would seal the sixth consecutive win for the Mavs. The Mavericks outlasted the next four shots by the Mountain Lions before the game ended.
