Del Mazo Makes History as #17 Mavericks Roll Past CCU

Five different Mavericks record goals

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO- The Mavericks showed another dominating performance Friday night against Colorado Christian. The Mavericks netted six goals to the Cougars zero. Briley Guarneri recorded his first shutout of the 2018 season and the Mavericks defense continued the Cougars steak of zero goals on the season.

The Mavericks roll past CCU 6-0 and improve to a 2-0-1 RMAC record and 4-0-1 overall record.

Del Mazo Makes History

Coming into this match Del Mazo was tied with Moshe Perez as the all-time career assist leader with 22 assist. After his two assist against the Cougars he owns the title and can be named the all-time career assist leader. Del Mazo recorded two assist in the first half of this game. Both assist happened with in eight minutes of each other. One assist was recorded off a goal from Kevin Chavez and the other a corner kick to James McGhee who headed his third goal of the season.

Highlights

Kevin Chavez netted the first two goals for the Mavericks. His second goal was the historic goal that made Del Mazo the all-time career assist leader. Kevin Chavez pitched the ball perfectly over the goal keeper's reach to net his second goal of the season and game.

Five different Mavericks recorded goals in this dominating win. James McGhee headed his third goal of the season off a corner kick from Del Mazo in the 30th minute.

Peter Vandam and Connor Lowdermilk found their first goals of the season while Lawan Abary would net his eighth goal of the season. Abary has now recorded goals in four straight games for the Mavericks. The 6'4'' Forward proved again tonight why he was name The Offensive Player of the Week last week.

As a team the Mavericks outshot the Cougars 30 to three. The Cougars only attempted one shot on goal and Briley Guarneri recorded a save for his only save of the game. For the Cougars Zach Roberts Allowed six goals and recorded five saves.

Next Up

The Mavericks next match will be against MSU-Denver Sunday on Walker Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
