Women’s Soccer Opens up RMAC Play with a Win

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO.- Zoe Peterson's lone goal of the game pushed the Mavericks past the Cougars of Colorado Christian. The Mavericks defeated the Cougars in 90 minutes 1-0.

Recap

Emily Signorio started as goalkeeper for the Mavericks and recorded seven saves throughout the game to help the Mavericks defeat the Cougars.

During the first half the Mavericks took eight shots compared to the Cougar's five shots. There were only four total saves  in the first half three of which were made by the Cougars. With empty opportunities from both teams the Mavericks and Cougars entered the second half scoreless.

Ryanne Parker took a shot in the 54th minute of action that was saved by the Cougars goalkeeper Ireland VanDyke who could not maintain control of the ball. During this play the ball would bounce off the goalkeepers hands into the feet of Parker who then placed it perfectly in front of Peterson for a goal. Peterson put one past the helpless Cougar goalkeeper and recorded her second goal of the season. Parker was awarded the assist and Peterson was awarded the goal.

In the second half the Cougars outshot the Mavericks 12 to eight but could not find a goal. The goal by the Maverick's Peterson was the only goal of the game for either team.

At the end of regulation the two teams were similar in stats. The Mavericks shot 16 times compared to the Cougars 17 shots. Each team committed six fouls and VanDyke recorded eight saves which was only one more than Signorio's seven saves.
