ODESSA, TEXAS- The Mavericks took the field Friday evening at 6 P.M. against UT-Permian Basin and walked away with a 3-0 win.
It Takes a Team
Coach Jason Clare knew this game was going to be a challenge since the team would find themselves in road jerseys on a home team's turf but, that did not stop the Mavericks from working together. He mentioned "I believe you cannot just have individuals you have to have a whole team that is collectively working together with the right mindset." The Mavericks would find this true by having three different players from two different classes record goals. Freshmen Lexi Newton and juniors Alexis Allard and Ryanne Parker would find success against UTPB.
Recap
During the first half, starting goalie for the Mavs Janelle Richmond-Buccola recorded a save against UTPB's Lauren Marenco. Not long after Lexi Newton and Zoe Peterson attempted to find the net minutes before half time but, would be unsuccessful due to UTPB's goal keeper Chenoa Crites.
Both teams were scoreless going into the second half, however, the Mavs would soon change that.
In the 60th minute Grand Junction native Lexi Newton would record her first career goal in a CMU uniform. Newton dropped this goal in from a cross pass by Alexis Allard.
Soon after Allard would find more success and record her first goal of the 2018 season and 12th in her career. Mackenzie King found herself in that play, by perfectly pitching it from the post and off the cross to find Allard.
King would again find a teammate and record another assist in the 72nd minute. King's long pass through the middle found Ryanne Parker who now put the Mavericks up 3-0.
The Mav's entered the final 15 minutes of the game in dominating fashion which resulted in a 3-0 victory.
The Mavericks and Falcons both took exactly 15 shots and each recorded 7 saves. The Mavericks remain undefeated against the Falcons now winning the series 3-0.
