Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 12 Colorado Mesa baseball team dropped the opening game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament to the Regis Rangers 15-12 on Wednesday evening at Suplizio Field.
The two starting pitchers in the game won the past two RMAC Pitchers of the Year in Colorado Mesa's
Kyle Leahy and Regis' Brad Thoutt. The two combined to allow 16 runs, 22 hits, four walks and nine strikeouts while neither factored into the decision.
In the end, the two teams combined for 42 hits.
Colorado Mesa took the lead in the seventh on a two-run single by
Garrett Ball that scored
Dominic DeMarco and
Jordan Stubbings. That made the score 12-11 in favor of the Mavericks.
Regis came back in the top of the eighth with a two-run home run by Ryan Tierney to give the Rangers the 13-12 lead. They would later tack on two more in the ninth on a pair of bases loaded.
Ball finished the game 4-for-6 with a run scored and three runs driven in. He hit his fifth home run of the season as part of the Mavericks six-run first inning.
Hunter Douglas also had four hits in the game for the Mavericks including an inside the park home run in the bottom second.
Chris Ramirez was tagged in the loss in relief.
The Mavericks record drops to 36-14 while Regis' record improves to 27-22 on the season.
Colorado Mesa will play MSU Denver at 11am tomorrow morning in a loser-out game at Suplizio Field.
