Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – No. 14 Colorado Mesa tallied runs in the first six innings and coasted to a 14-3 win over the visiting MSU Denver Roadrunners on Fireworks Night in front of 2,585 fans at Suplizio Field.
Tanner Rempel put the Mavericks ahead in the first inning 2-0 on a two-run shot to left field. Rempel finished the game 1-for-2 but left the game early with an apparent arm injury.
Junior
Tyler Sandoval hit the first of his two home runs in the second inning, a solo shot to left center field.
His second home run of the game came just an inning later. This time a three-run bomb to right field. Sandoval finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs driven in. The two home runs moved his season total five.
Garrett Ball went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in and a run scored.
Jordan Stubbings and
JJ Carr each had multi-hit games as well.
On the mound,
Kyle Leahy earned his seventh win of the season after pitching six complete innings. Leahy (7-1) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out nine without allowing a free pass.
Jake Mielock and
Trevin Reynolds combined to pitch the final three innings and allowed just one hit.
Colorado Mesa improves to 33-13 on the season with a 23-9 conference mark.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 3:30pm from Suplizio Field.
