Mavs Split Pod Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GOLDEN, Colo. – The No. 7 Colorado Mesa Mavericks played a split doubleheader this afternoon at Darden Field at Colorado School of Mines. They took on Colorado Christian in game one before taking on the host Orediggers.
 
In the day's opener, Colorado Christian led 5-4 after four innings of play but the Mavericks scored 15 unanswered runs en route to a 19-5 win over the Cougars.
 
Three Mavericks finished the game with four hits.
 
Hunter Douglas, batting from the leadoff spot, went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three runs driven in. The redshirt junior added a triple and led off the game with his fourth home run of the season.
 
Junior catcher Tanner Rempel went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five runs driven in. Rempel hit a double and hit a three-run home run as a part of the five-run eighth inning. The home run was his second of the season.
 
Senior infielder JJ Carr went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two runs driven in.
 
On the mound, Taylor Dye earned his first career start and came away with the win. Dye (2-0) allowed five runs (two earned) on nine hits, walked three and struck out one in five complete innings.
 
Three relievers combined to allow three hits, a walk and four strikeouts in four innings of shutout relief.
 
In the night cap, Colorado School of Mines scored a 13-10 win over the Mavericks to come within a half game of the RMAC lead entering Monday's pod weekend finale.
 
The Orediggers handed Maverick starter Kyle Leahy his first loss of his collegiate career. Leahy (4-1) only lasted five and a third innings and allowed 11 runs on 13 hits (both career-highs) but still managed to strikeout nine batters.
 
Zach McLeod had a big game at the plate going 4-for-5 with a run scored and three runs driven in. McLeod, who now has 197 hits in his career as a Maverick, had two doubles in the game as well.
 
Domonic DeMarco hit his second home run of the season to spark a rally in the ninth inning. The pinch-hit home run was part of a four-run ninth inning for the Mavericks.
 
Colorado Mesa is now 23-9 on the season and 14-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
The Mavericks will take on the Orediggers on Monday (April 9) at Noon to conclude the pod weekend.
