GOLDEN, Colo. – The seventh-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team hung on for a 7-6 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars at Darden Field on the campus of Colorado School of Mines. The two teams opened the RMAC pod weekend on Saturday after snow blanketed the field on Friday afternoon.
The Mavericks took the lead for good in the seventh inning after a
Keenan Eaton safety squeeze and a
Hunter Douglas RBI single to give the Mavericks a 7-5 lead.
Colorado Christian would get one back in the eighth but that's all the closer they would get.
JJ Carr finished the game 3-for-5 while Douglas went 1-for-2 with three walks, two stolen bases, and a run scored.
Zach McLeod was the only other Maverick that had a multi-hit game.
Will Dixon earned the win on the mound. Dixon (1-0) pitched 1.1 innings of perfect relief to earn the first win of his career. The junior relieved starter
Reagan Todd who pitched the first 5.2 innings of the game.
AJ Landis got the final five outs of the game to earn his third save of the season. Landis allowed one walk and struck out three to finish the game.
Colorado Mesa moves its record to 22-8 on the season and 13-4 in the RMAC while Colorado Christian drops one game below .500 at 13-14 on the year, 8-9 in the conference.
The Mavericks will play a doubleheader tomorrow with one game coming against Colorado Christian and one game against Colorado School of Mines. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
