GOLDEN, Colo. – No. 13 Colorado Mesa baseball team worked a rally in the late innings but couldn't overcome the early deficit, falling to the No. 30 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 8-7 at Darden Field on Friday (Apr. 27) evening.
CMU allowed five runs in the first two innings of play before scoring their first run in the top half of the fourth innings on a RBI double by
Jordan Stubbings.
The freshman wasn't done either. He hit his second double of the game in the sixth inning, the shot to right center scored
Tanner Rempel.
He then went onto hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth.
Stubbings finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs driven in.
The Mavericks stranded two runners in the seventh and eighth innings and had nine runners left on base in the game.
Senior
Jake Mielock came on in relief of
Kyle Leahy and gave the Mavericks a chance. Mielock allowed one run on three hits, walked two and struck out five.
Colorado Mesa record drops to 29-13 on the season and 20-9 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action, two games behind the Orediggers who improve to 29-10 on the season and 22-7 in the conference.
The two teams will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
