GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 12 Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four-game sweep of the Adams State Grizzlies on Sunday (Apr. 22) with a 18-8 win at Suplizio Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Mavericks scored in six of the eight innings including a seven-run third inning. The third inning was highlighted by
John Ballard's first home run, a two-run bomb to straight away right field.
Garrett Ball continued to swing a hot bat on the weekend. The senior finished today 3-for-5 with four runs scored and two runs driven in. Ball hit his fifth double of the season as a part of the third inning.
Johnny Carr provided a spark to the lineup this weekend and he didn't slow down on Sunday. Carr went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs driven in. The redshirt freshman batted .700 (7-for-10) in the series.
Tanner Rempel and
Jordan Stubbings each finished with a multi-hit game.
Taylor Prokopis earned the start on the mound and went four innings. The senior allowed three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out six but didn't factor into the decision.
Tanner Herdt picked up the win in relief. Herdt (2-1) allowed just one hit in his one inning of work.
The Mavericks are just one game out of the top spot in the RMAC standings after the sweep and will meet up with Mines next weekend in Golden.
