Kyle Leahy was perfect for five and two-thirds innings to help lead No. 12 Colorado Mesa to a 13-0 win over the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday (Apr. 20) evening at Suplizio Field.
Leahy (6-1) retired the first 17 batters he faced before allowing a two-out triple to Dakota Solis for the Grizzlies first base runner of the game. The junior allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out seven in seven shutout innings of work.
The two Nicks closed out the final two innings of action. Cardinale allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one in the eighth inning while Borowski allowed one walk and got Justin Zamora to strikeout to end the game.
Colorado Mesa scored in bunches as the tallied five runs in the first, three runs in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the seventh.
Senior
Garrett Ball led the Mavericks offensively, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs driven in. Ball hit a two-run double to center field as part of the three-run fourth inning for Colorado Mesa. The double was Ball's fourth of the season.
Ball was one of four Mavericks that finished the game with four hits.
Caleb Farmer was one of the four Mavericks and hit his 12
th and 13
th doubles of the season.
Colorado Mesa improved their record to 26-12 on the season and 17-8 in the RMAC while Adams State continues to struggle, falling to 1-38 on the season and 1-24 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The two teams will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1pm at Suplizio Field.
