Colorado Mesa welcomes in the Adams State Grizzlies for four games at Suplizio Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. After spending over a month on the road, the Mavericks will host their second straight opponent at home where they are 10-2 on the season.
Adams State has struggled this year, coming into the weekend with a 1-37 overall record and a 1-23 record inside the conference. The Grizzlies defeated UCCS 12-6 back on March 18 for their lone victory.
Offensively, Adams State is led by Grand Junction High School product Tyson Zanski who leads the Grizzlies in every major offensive category except home runs. He has a .387 batting average with 10 doubles and 20 runs driven in with a .581 slugging percentage this season. Orlando Romer leads the Grizzlies in home runs with five.
On the mound, David Maldonado is likely to get the ball in the opening game of the series. He has a 1-4 record with a 7.88 ERA.
LAST WEEKEND
The Mavericks split a four-game series with the Regis Rangers at Suplizio FIeld. Colorado Mesa batted .262 during the series to the Rangers .211 but the Rangers had more extra base-hits than CMU and struck out fewer times. Regis had a team ERA of 3.00 during the series while the Mavericks had a 2.81 ERA with both teams allowing 10 earned runs a piece.
HISTORY WITH ADAMS STATE
Colorado Mesa is 20-2 against Adams State since the Grizzlies brought back the program in 2013. The Mavericks are 9-1 at home and are on a seven-game winning streak against Adams State. Last season, Colorado Mesa took all four games against the Grizzlies in Alamosa and won by an average margin of 7.75 runs per game in the series sweep. Adams State is batting .261 on the season and have a team ERA of 9.93.

Hunter Douglas has turned into one of the top leadoff hitters in the RMAC this season. He is leading the Mavericks with a .402 batting average and even better has a .521 on-base percentage. He leads the Mavericks in runs scored proving to be the prototypical table setter for the offense.

The Mavericks have stranded 307 baserunners this year for an average of 8.2 runners left on per game. The Mavericks are hitting .310 with runners in scoring position nad have scored 58.9 percent of the time when they have a runner on third and less than two outs.

During the UCCS series, head coach
Chris Hanks won his 800th game as the skipper of Colorado Mesa University. Hanks' first win came on February 11, 1999, a 9-6 win over Division I Southern Utah in St. George, Utah.

Colorado Mesa is 10-0 in game ones this season. The Mavericks have victories over UC San Diego and Dixie State by 10 and nine runs respectively in game ones this year.

The Mavericks set a program record a year ago by going 50-12 during the 2017 campaign. The 50 wins was a program first and ending up leading the nation in wins. The 50th win may not have come against a grander opponent in top ranked Delta State in the NCAA Division II World Series.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mavericks fell to No. 12 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper coach's poll after the weekend split with Regis. Colorado Mesa fell completely out of the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association poll while dropping to No. 15 in the Perfect Game Division II rankings.

Chris Hanks enters his 20th season guiding the Mavericks and has an impressive 813-340 record, most in program history. In 2017, he guided the Mavericks to their third NCAA Division II World Series and their ninth straight NCAA Tournament. The feat earned him ABCA South Central Region Coach of the year, an honor he has earned three times now.

Colorado Mesa will head out on the road for the final time during the regular season when they head to Golden for a showdown with the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. Mines currently sits in first place in the conference and have beaten Colorado Mesa twice already this season.
