LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Colorado Mesa and New Mexico Highlands concluded their four-game series on Saturday with a single nine-inning game at Brandt Field. A seven-run second inning propelled the Cowboys to the 9-4 win over the Mavericks as the two teams split the series.
Highlands' seven-run second inning came on five hits and a pair of walks. The big blow came off the bat of
Chris Ramirez who delivered a three-run home run to right center giving the Cowboys an 8-1 lead.
Colorado Mesa crawled back into the game but it was too little too late. The Mavericks added single runs in the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth innings.
Hunter Douglas continued to swing a hot bat, finishing the game 3-for-4 with a double and a run driven in. He was the lone Maverick with a multi-hit game.
Jordan Stubbings belted his fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning. The freshman is now tied for the team lead.
Nick Cardinale took the loss on the mound for the Mavericks.
Colorado Mesa is now 21-8 on the season and 12-4 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks will finish their 12-game road trip next weekend during the RMAC pod weekend at Colorado School of Mines. They will play two games against Colorado Christian and a pair of games against the host Orediggers.
