Women's Lacrosse Knocks Off CSU-Pueblo

Colorado Mesa University hosted just their third home game of the season on Sunday, this one against CSU-Pueblo. It was the Mavericks fourth conference game of the season, and CMU came out on top once again by a final score of 15-8.

The first half was dominated from start to finish by the Mavericks. After falling behind 1-0, the Mavericks went on an 11-1 run to close out the first half. In the second half, the Thunderwolves fought their way back into the game scoring the first six goals of the half to climb within three (11-8).

However, over the final five minutes of action the Mavericks were not going to let the game get any closer. CMU closed out the match scoring the final four goals to bump up their total to 15 on the afternoon.

CMU dominated the offensive side of the ball for a majority of the afternoon. They finished with 40 shots in the game compared to the Thunderwolves 21.

Lindsi Peters and Olivia Hayden led the team with three goals apiece. Peters also added a team high three assists to give her a grand total of six points on the day. Three other Mavericks finished with two goals each followed by three others with one.

Lula Mitchell was in goal for CMU for the seventh straight game. She finished the afternoon collecting nine saves to get her sixth win of the season.

The Mavericks will be at home for two games next week against UCCS and Regis. The game against UCCS will be Thursday at 4 p.m. while the game against Regis will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
