PUEBLO, Colo. – The No. 5 Colorado Mesa baseball team extended its winning streak to eight after a doubleheader sweep of rival CSU-Pueblo on Saturday at Rawlings Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The wins also give the Mavericks 10 straight against the ThunderWolves dating back to 2016.
Regan Todd pitched a complete game to lead Colorado Mesa to a 4-1 win over CSU-Pueblo in game one of the doubleheader. The junior scattered three hits while allowing one run and struck out eight.
Todd (3-0) walked six batters but only walked two in the first and seventh innings.
Shortstop
Zach McLeod continued with his hot bat. The senior went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. He hit his third home run of the season, and second of the series, in the sixth inning. The home run was a two-run shot to left field that scored
Keenan Eaton who led off the inning with a walk.
JJ Carr,
Hunter Douglas and
Nick Borowski all finished the game with two hits.
In the nightcap, the Mavericks erupted for 12 runs in a 12-0 shutout of the ThunderWolves.
Chris Ramirez pitched a complete game shutout in game two, allowing five hits, walked one and struck out four in his seven innings of work. Ramirez (2-1) retired six batters in a row at two separate points of the game including the final six of the game.
Freshman
Jordan Stubbings had a breakout game going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Stubbings homered to left field in his first at-bat giving Colorado Mesa the 1-0 lead. He finished just a triple short of the cycle.
Sophomore
Trevin Reynolds hit his first home run of the season in the top half of the fifth inning, a two-run shot to left field.
Douglas was the only other Mavericks with multiple hits even though the Mavericks banged out 13 hits.
Eleven different Mavericks had at least one hit.
Colorado Mesa improves to 19-5 on the season and 10-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while CSU-Pueblo falls to 14-14 on the year and 6-9 in the conference.
The two teams will complete their four-game series tomorrow with a single nine inning game beginning at Noon.
