NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— The No. 1 duo of Katie Scherr and Taylor Woods and the No.2 pairing of Megan Gianinetti and Hana Peterman each won a thrilling 3-set match to lead the Colorado Mesa University Beach Volleyball team on Wednesday as the Mavericks competed against Cal State Northridge and Missouri State in a tri-dual at the Matadors' Beach Volleyball Facility.
The Mavericks lost both duals 4-1 and are now 2-5 over the first three days of their season and Spring break trip, which continues Saturday.
Gianinetti and Peterman were come-from-behind victors against Kristey Markle and Nickeisha Williams of Cal State Northridge, receiving votes this week's AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball poll. Woods and Scherr fell to Katie Sato and Aeryn Owens in the No. 1 flight against the Matadors (8-1), by identical 21-16 set scores.
Against Missouri State (4-2), Scherr and Woods posted a 21-17, 11-21, 17-15 win over Julia Hanson and Aubrey Cheffey to improve to a team-leading 4-3 thus far in 2018.
