SHAWNEE, Okla.— Olivia Hayden and
Hannah Payton each recorded hat-tricks while
Lindsi Peters finished with a goal and four assists as the Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a dominating 19-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over Oklahoma Baptist University on Monday evening.
Â
The Mavericks, who had 13 different goal scorers, improved to 4-0 on the year, with all four of their victories coming against RMAC foes. However, Monday's victory was their first official RMAC win of the season after earlier non-conference games against Fort Lewis, Adams State and Westminster, teams they will face later in the year in contests that will count in the RMAC standings.
Â
Against the Bison (2-4, 0-2 RMAC), the Mavericks raced to an early 4-0 lead in the first 5:12 of the evening with goals from
Marissa Leonardi,
Amanda Geary, Marcy Koch and
Jessica Cook and a pair of assists from Peters, which came on the Geary and Koch goals, spaced just 19 seconds apart.
Â
The Bison then scored their only goal of the game from the stick of Breanna Wichert 22:39 left in the first half before the Mavericks scored each of the game's final 15 goals in the run-away victory.
Â
CMU led 12-1 at the half and scored five of the final nine goals of the game on free position shots.
Â
Hayden, who recorded her second hat-trick of the season after scoring seven goals in the season-opener against Fort Lewis, also finished Monday's win with six draw controls and was one of five Mavericks with three caused turnovers.Â
Â
The Mavericks forced 30 turnovers overall.
Â
Meanwhile, Payton tallied her second, third and fourth goals of the year and added an assist while picking up a pair of ground balls.Â
Â
Lauren Delancellot and Koch also finished with two goals each to aid the cause.
Â
Lula Mitchell picked up the win in goal for the Mavericks but needed to make just two saves as the Mavericks out-shot the Bison 38-11 overall while holding an impressive 31-3 edge in shots on goal.
Â
The Mavericks continue their Midwestern spring break swing with RMAC games on Wednesday at Rockhurst (6-2, 3-1 RMAC) in Kansas City, Mo. and then play at No. 3 Lindenwood (8-0, 3-0 RMAC) in St. Charles, Mo. on Friday.
