Colorado Mesa University continued their unbeaten streak to open up the season with a dominant victory over Rockhurst University (RU) on Wednesday. After scoring nine goals in the second half the Mavericks were able to double up the Hawks 16-8 when the final buzzer sounded.

CMU opened up the onslaught scoring seven of the first eight goals to take a 7-1 lead with 8:16 left to play in the opening half. RU would close the gap to two by scoring the next four goals to close out the first half.

In the second half the Maverick's offense didn't let up, but their defense stepped up their game and held the Hawks to only three scores. Meanwhile, CMU would enjoy nine goals in the period.

Offensively the Mavericks dominated the afternoon, finishing with 12 more shots total and 13 more on goal. RU committed nearly twice as many fouls on the day as well (21-11), helping the Mavericks offense from start to finish.

Olivia Hayden,
Lindsi Peters and
Jessica Cook all finished with four goals on the afternoon, with Cook also adding three assists to lead the team in total points with seven.
Kiley Barber also added in two goals and an assist on the afternoon.

Lula Mitchell was in goal for CMU and received her fifth win of the season. She finished the game with seven saves.

With the win CMU gets its fifth win of the season and second RMAC win of the year. CMU will now face off against No. 3 Lindenwood University on Friday at 11 a.m.
