GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The eighth-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team earned the four-game sweep of the UCCS Mountain Lions on Sunday (Mar. 11) afternoon with an 8-4 win at Suplizio Field.
The Mavericks fell behind 2-0 after two and a half innings but scored three unearned runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead.
UCCS would even it up in the top of the sixth inning at 3-3 after a bases loaded double play scored one.f
Reagan Todd delivered the go-ahead hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. The junior smoked a bases loaded ground ball through the right side of the infield to score
JJ Carr from third, putting the Mavs up 4-3.
The next batter,
Tanner Rempel, opened the game up in grand fashion. The junior hit a grand slam to right field, his first home run of the season that gave Colorado Mesa the 8-3 advantage.
Taylor Dye picked up the win in relief. Dye (1-0) tossed 4.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit, walked one and struck out five.
Senior
Taylor Prokopis picked up the save, recording the final two outs with the bases loaded.
The Mavericks improve to 15-5 on the season and 7-1 tied atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings while the Mountain Lions fall to 9-11 on the season and 3-5 in the conference.
Colorado Mesa will be on their bye week next weekend and will not have any games until March 23 when they start a four-game series with RMAC rival CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo.
