GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The eighth-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball swept a doubleheader from UCCS on Saturday (Mar. 10) in walk-off fashion at Suplizio Field.
In game one of the day, it took 11 innings but pinch hitter
Josh Shapiro laced an RBI single to center field to score
Caleb Farmer from third in a 7-6 victory for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks were down to their final at-bat in the ninth inning but
Tanner Rempel stepped to the plate and delivered. Rempel laced a triple to the right center gap on the relay into third base, the ball skipped by and into the stands and the umpires awarded Rempel home, knotting the score at 6-6.
Farmer finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a home run.
Nick Borowski was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a run driven in. Borowski also had a pair of doubles in the game.
Taylor Prokopis picked up the win in relief. Prokopis (2-1) pitched a pair of perfect inning and struck out three.
In the night cap, freshman
Jordan Stubbings hit a double into the gap in right center field scoring
JJ Carr from first and gave Colorado Mesa a 4-3 win.
The Mavericks only had five hits in the game but made the best of them.
Jake Mielock earned the win in relief of
Chris Ramirez. Mielock (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and struck out four in two innings of work.
Colorado Mesa is now 14-5 on the season and 6-1 in the RMAC while UCCS falls to 9-10 on the season and 3-4 in the conference.
The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow with a single nine inning game beginning at Noon.
