RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team had to settle for the series split on the road against No. 6 Cal Baptist after dropping the final game of the series 8-1 at Totman Field.
The Lancers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth 1-0 but Colorado Mesa answered back in the top of the seventh with a run to tie the game.
Cal Baptist countered with five runs in the bottom of the seventh and added two more in the eighth.
The Mavericks finished with just four hits in the game.
Nick Cardinale took the loss for the Mavericks on the mound. Cardinale (0-1) didn't record an out and allowed three runs on one hit and walked two.
Colorado Mesa falls to 8-4 on the season while the Lancers improved to 7-3 on the season.
The Mavericks will open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on the road in Lakewood against Colorado Christian. The two teams will play two doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
