PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team fell 66-53 to RMAC regular season champion CSU-Pueblo at Massari Arena to open the final weekend of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The loss locks the Mavericks into the No. 7 seed in the RMAC Tournament, which opens on Tuesday on the road against an opponent yet to be determined.
Colorado Mesa fell behind early in the contest and could never recover. The Mavericks were down 18-12 after the first quarter and 34-23 at halftime. The ThunderWolves led for over 35 minutes of the match.
The Mavericks shot 38.5 percent (20-for-52) from the field but made a season-low three three-point baskets (3-for-23). CSU-Pueblo made 42.9 percent (21-for-49) of their shots including 31.6 percent from beyond the three-point line.
Senior
Ma'ata Epenisa led the Mavericks with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. She pulled down five rebounds and blocked a shot.
Fellow senior
Erin Reichle was the only other Maverick in double figures with 12 points. She handed out five assists and moved into third place on the all-time assist list, surpassing Jamie Teeters.
ThunderWolf Tuileisu Anderson finished with a game-high 19 points while Katie Cunningham finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Mavericks are now 18-9 on the season and 12-9 in the RMAC while CSU-Pueblo improved to 21-6 on the year and 19-2 in the conference.
Colorado Mesa will close out the regular season with a game against New Mexico Highlands at 5:30pm.
