Mavericks Fall to Thunderwolves

Box Score Colorado Mesa University was on the road for their second to last game of the 2017-18 season in Pueblo, taking on CSU-Pueblo (CSUP) on Friday night. A slow offensive first half helped give the Thunderwolves the 82-69 victory over the Mavericks.
 
Through the first 10 minutes of action the Mavericks had a narrow 13-10 lead over the Thunderwolves. However, over the next 10 minutes before the end of the half CSUP would go on a 27-15 run to take a nine-point lead into the half.
 
In the second half, the Mavericks were unable to gain any kind of momentum on the road. CSUP led by as many as 18 to eventually come away with the 13-point win.
 
Three-point field goals was a huge difference in the game, with the Mavericks finishing the night with only five made compared to the Thunderwolves 13. CSUP finished with two players hitting three and two others with two makes from distance.
 
As a team the Mavericks also finished with fewer assists in the game (20-12) despite leading the conference at 18 assists per game.
 
Emilio Acedo was the leading scorer for the Mavericks. He finished the game with 22 points and five rebounds. Acedo also made three of the five made shots from long range. Connor Nichols was the only other Maverick to finish the game in double figures with 16 to go along with his nine rebounds.
 
CMU will play their final game tomorrow night against New Mexico Highlands University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. down in Las Vegas, N.M.
