Denver, Colo – Despite a career high night from Tommy Nuno the Colorado Mesa Mavericks picked up their third loss of the season losing 68-73 to the Roadrunners of MSU Denver. Connor Nichols and Tommy Nuno each recorded 22 points and grabbed a combined ten rebounds.
Game in Review
There were seven lead changes throughout the game but Nuno and Nichols started the Mavericks off by scoring the first four points and getting them out to a 4-0 lead within the first minutes of the game. The Roadrunners and Mavericks exchanged baskets but found themselves tied at 20 at the 6:53 mark. Kolton Peterson hit a 3-pointer to put the Mavericks up by three but the Roadrunners answered back with a 3-pointer of their own. The Mavericks then went on a 7-0 run and extended their lead 30-23 with 3:39 remaining in the first half. The Maverick entered halftime with a 35-30 lead.
The Roadrunners scored the first three field goals of the second half and took the lead 36-35 at the 18:19 mark. They then scored the following three field goals to extend their lead 42-35. This 12-0 run was ended by Nuno with just under fifteen minutes remaining in the second half. Nuno scored the Mavericks' next five points and Damon Dubos made a free throw to put them within one at 43-44.
The Mavericks suffered their largest deficit of the game with 6:06 remaining in the second half and found themselves down 65-52. Nuno and Nichols took over for the Mavericks and scored the next 13 of 15 points but the Mavericks never gained a lead and ultimately fell 68-73.

The Mavericks will travel to Chadron State for their final game before New Year. The game will take place at 5:30 pm.
