West Coast Swing On Deck for Women's Wrestlers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team is back on the road this weekend at the West Coast Tournament of Champions in Rocklin, Calif. on Friday and Saturday. Friday will feature a variety of dual matches, that have yet to be determined at this time, while Saturday will be an individual tournament format.
 
THE COMPETITION
The West Coast Tournament of Champions will feature some of the top WCWA teams with No. 1 Wayland Baptist, No. 3 Simon Fraser, No. 4 Emmanuel College, and No. 6 Menlo all slated to compete this weekend.
 
In every tournament they have competed in this season, the Mavericks have faced some of the nation's top competition. This is the fourth weekend they will compete against Wayland Baptist and the first time for the other three ranked schools.
 
Colorado Mesa will compete in three duals on Friday (Dec. 14) and then the individual tournament on Saturday (Dec. 15).
 
BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS?
Senior Carson Pipher earned her name in the record books at the Wayland Baptist Invite when she won the 136-pound weight class with her 3-0 mark. Pipher defeated No. 8 Brittany Bates 8-5 in her first match of the tournament before defeating teammate Amber Strong and Pioneer Jacqueline Flores.
 
The Mavericks have two others with winning records on the year that could come away with a title this weekend. Sierra Brown Ton will compete at 123 pounds this weekend and enters the week with a 7-3 mark on the season. Alma Mendoza heads to the Golden State with a 9-6 record with all her matches coming at 155 pounds.
 
RETURN FROM INJURY
Grand Junction native Kaylee Lacy is scheduled to compete this weekend on one of the days this weekend after an injury at the Missouri Valley Open. Lacy won her first three matches of the season before falling in the match where she got hurt to Cara Romeike of Jamestown.
 
She will enter the weekend with a 3-1 record with a pair of falls and a tech fall.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Colorado Mesa has scheduled another home dual that will take place on January 10 in conjunction with the men's dual with Simon Fraser. The Mavericks will take on Lindenwood at 5pm in Brownson Arena.
