GUNNISON, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 96-75 win over Northern New Mexico to close out the Comfort Inn Classic, hosted by Western Colorado University.
Colorado Mesa shot over 57 percent from the field in the game and made 40 percent of their three-point shots. They scored 56 of their 96 points in the paint with 31 points coming off the bench.
For the second straight night, the Mavericks had five players score in double figures.
Damon Dubots led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field. The senior added six rebounds and handed out one assist.
Connor Nichols added 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field while
Michael Skinner had 16 points on 5-for-6 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Sam Walters scored 14 points and Kolten Peterson added 13.
The Mavericks led by as many as 28 at 96-68 with 2:50 to play in the game after
Sam Walters buried a three-pointer.
Colorado Mesa is now 3-1 on the young season with one more weekend of non-conference action yet to play.
The Mavericks will return home for the annual Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Classic in Brownson Arena. Colorado Mesa will take on Graceland and Fisher, a pair of NAIA schools, on Friday and Saturday.
