Senior Day ends in a Draw

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After honoring the Maverick's five seniors and 110 minutes of action, Colorado Mesa tied 1-1 with Fort Lewis College. The Mavericks were first to score behind a goal from Lexi Newton but the Skyhawks were aggressive to tie it. After Sunday's match the Maverick's record is now 6-5-4 and 4-4-3 in the RMAC.

Recap

All five of the Maverick seniors started Sunday afternoon's match. Despite a total of 11 shots in the first half eight of which were by the Mavericks neither team was able to record a goal. The Maverick's defense limited the Skyhawks to only three shots it the first half. Emily Signorio recorded one save during that time.

After four shots by the Mavericks to start the second half Lexi Newton was able to net the first goal of the match. Ryanne Parker was carrying the ball down the right side of the field and pitched the ball past two Skyhawk defenders and to a sprinting Newton who collected the ball and netted her third goal of the season.

The Skyhhawks did not let up and were able to net a goal to tie the Mavericks not too long after. Katie Smith for Fort Lewis tied the game with her third goal of the season.

With time remaining the Skyhawks attempted three more shots and Signorio saved each one. The Mavericks only attempted one shot before the end of regulation.

The Mavericks entered their fifth over time of the season. They have a 1-0-4 record in overtime matches this season having never lost.

The Mavericks attempted six shots throughout both overtimes forcing the Skyhawk's goal keeper to make two saves each of which were recording in the first overtime. The Mavericks defense limited the Skyhawks to only one shot attempt in overtime.

Alexis Allard recorded a team high eight shots four of which were on goal. The Maveicks outshot the Skyhawks 24-9.

Britt Blomso for the Skyhawks made eight saves and the Maverick's Signorio recorded five.

Next Up

The Mavericks will finish the regular season on the road with matches against Dixie State and Westminster. First they will travel to St. George, Utah on Oct 25 to battle with the Trailblazers of Dixie State. Game time is set for 7:30 pm Thursday evening. Following this match the Mavs will travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Griffins. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 pm on  Saturday Oct 27.
