RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks finished the weekend with a 2-1 victory over South Dakota School of Mines Sunday morning. Their record improved to 10-1-4 and 8-1-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Kevin Del Mazo and Tristan Widic each recorded a goal.

Briley Guarneri was named the Maverick's starting goal keeper for the tenth consecutive time this season. Cody Calcogno found his first start of the season as a defender for the Mavericks.
Del Mazo attempted one shot before the Hardrockers committed a foul that resulted in a penalty kick. The senior for Santiago, Chile stepped up to attempted his fourth PK of the season and found the back of the net against the Hardrocker's Jack Seifert. Del Mazo is perfect in penalty kicks netting each four of his attempts this season. Tis put the Mavericks up 1-0 twenty minutes into the first half.
The Hardrockers took one shot before Justin Barkow netted the first goal for the Hardrockers. The Mavericks attempted three shots before half time but none were successful.
It only took one minute into the second half for the Mavericks to record their second goal. Tristan Widic who did not start the game but started the second half recorded the game winning goal for the Mavericks in the 46th minute of action. He has two goals on the season both of which are game winning.
Shortly after the Hardrockers attempted to tie the match but Briley Guarneri recorded a save. This was his only save of the match.
The Mavericks attempted 22 shots and eight shot on goal forcing the Hardrocker's goal keeper to make six saves. The Mavericks defense only allowed seven shots two of which were on goal.
The Mavericks attempted eight total corner kicks.
Next Matches
The Mavericks will wrap up the RMAC regular season with two matches this week. First the Mavericks will host Fort Lewis College on Oct 25 at 7 pm. Following this match the Mavericks will hit the road and travel to Alamosa, Colo. for a match on Oct 27 against Adams State at 11 am.
The RMAC Tournament will start on Oct 30.
