Thompson’s Hat Trick Propels Mavericks past CSU-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo.- The Mavericks defeated the Thunderwolves 3-0 on Sunday afternoon behind Lauren Thompson's three goals. This win improved the Mavericks to a 5-5-3 overall record and 3-4-2 RMAC record.

This win came at the perfect time for the Mavericks who have been borderline RMAC tournament eligible all season. They now have 11 conference points and are only one point behind 7th and 8th place who are tied at 12 and one point ahead of Western who has ten conference points and is in 10th place. The Mavericks are currently in the 9th position and eligible for the RMAC Tournament.

Recap

Senior forward Thompson recorded her 8th start of the season and took a team high eight shots on Sunday afternoon five of which were on goal. Thompson took three shots in the first 15 minutes of the match before netting her first goal of the season in the 16th minute. Her goal was off a deflection just inside the left post.

Just six minutes later Thompson found the net again with the help of Jocelyn Ceccarelli who crossed the ball from outside the box. Thompson was able to net the goal inside the left post for the second time.

The Thunderwovles attempted to net their first goal of the season but it would only be Thompson who could find the back of the net for either team.

In the 31st minute just ten minutes after her second goal of the game and season Thompson completed her hat trick with the help of Alexxis Ward. Thompson pitched this ball just high of the goalkeepers reach.

The Mavericks were up 3-0 with 60 minutes of action left to play. The Thunderwovles attempted five more shots during the first half but non were successful.

Emily Signorio recorded three saves in the first half and finished the match with seven.

In the second half the Mavericks took six more shots while CSU-Pueblo took seven.

This was the third shut out by the Mavericks this season. Signorio has been goal keeper in all three of those.

Next Up

The Mavericks return home next weekend for games against Adams State and Fort Lewis on Oct 19 and Oct 21, respectively. The Match on Sunday against Fort Lewis will be the final home game for the Mavericks. Senior day is scheduled to take place prior to the match.
