CHADRON, Neb. – It wasn't easy but the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team extended its win streak over Chadron State to 15 games after a 64-63 win over the Eagles on Friday evening in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Karina Brandon's layin with 1:33 to play in the fourth quarter gave the Mavericks a four point lead. It was a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Chadron State got the ball back with six seconds to play trailing by one. Guard Kalli Feddersen dribbled the length of the floor but never got a shot off giving the Mavericks the victory.
Chadron State led for over 28 minutes in the game, leading by as many as 10 at 22-12 with 7:56 to play in the second quarter. The Eagles got 29 points off their bench but the 21 turnovers proved costly.
The Mavericks were outrebounded in the game but came up with 18 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points to Chadron State's three second chance points.
Colorado Mesa shot just 32.4 percent (24-for-74) from the field but just 21.2 percent (7-for-33) from beyond the arc. They were 0-for-10 from the three-point line in the first quarter and just 1-for-8 in the third quarter of action.
Senior
Erin Reichle led all scorers with a season-high 25 points. Reichle got hot in the second-half, scoring 16 points and hit on four three-point baskets. The senior also pulled down five rebounds and handed out two assists.
Ma'ata Epenisa finished with 15 points while
Jaylyn Duran had 10 points to close out the Mavericks in double-digits.
Taryn Fox led Chadron State with 17 points. Fedderson finished the game with 15 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds.
Colorado Mesa improves to 11-3 on the season and 5-3 in the RMAC while Chadron State drops to 3-12 on the season and 1-8 in the conference.
The Mavericks will close out the road trip with a game at 5pm in Denver against Regis.
