Mavericks Fall in Double Overtime Thriller

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team dropped a 74-67 double overtime bout to the home Regis Rangers on Saturday evening in Regis Fieldhouse in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
 
The double overtime game was the first since December 6, 2014 when the Mavericks dropped an 86-81 game to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets in Spearfish, S.D.
 
The Mavericks had an opportunity at the end of regulation and the end of the first overtime to win. Jaylyn Duran missed a jumper with one second left on the clock at the end of regulation while Erin Reichle missed one at with four seconds remaining at the end of the first overtime.
 
Reichle and Duran tied for the game-high in scoring with 22 points. Reichle scored nine points in the first overtime and finished the game shooting 41.2 percent from the field.
 
Duran shot 38.1 percent from the field and buried five three-point baskets along the way.
 
Ma'ata Epenisa finished with 13 points.
 
Only four bench players saw action in the game with the five starters all seeing more than 37 minutes of action. The four combined for five points in 27 minutes of action.
 
The Rangers stayed in the game the whole way because of their work on the glass. Regis finished with a plus-10 rebound margin on the Mavericks and 16-2 edge in second chance points.
 
Majestie Robinson led Regis with 20 points while Shelby Espinosa finished with a double-double tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Mavericks fall to 11-4 on the season and 5-4 in the conference while Regis evens their record at 7-7, 6-3 in the RMAC.
 
Colorado Mesa will return home next weekend for a pair of games against Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines in Brownson Arena.
