Maverick Win Streak Reaches Four

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second straight night, the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team relied on their defense to get stops in crucial moments. The Mavericks earned a 54-46 road win over the red hot UCCS Mountain Lions on Saturday evening at the Gallogly Events Center.

Colorado Mesa limited the Mountain Lions to just eight points in the first quarter and limited them to just one three-point basket in the first half. UCCS shot just 37 percent for the game and didn't record a second chance point.

The Mountain Lions came into the evening winners of three straight games including CSU-Pueblo who currently sits in first place in the RMAC.

Senior Erin Reichle had the hot hand for the second straight game finishing with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. Reichle made three three-pointers in the game, breaking the all-time mark with 215 three-pointers set by Terri Dangler during the 1994-97 seasons.

Colorado Mesa shot 40 percent (20-for-50) from the field and made 23.1 percent (6-for-26) from the three-point line in the game. The two teams were tied in rebounds with 31.

Jaylyn Duran finished with a career-high five steals.

The Mavericks move their record to 15-4 on the season and 9-4 in the RMAC which puts them in a three-way tie for third place with MSU Denver and Black Hills State. UCCS falls to 6-12 on the season and 6-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Colorado Mesa will play host to the South Dakota schools next weekend in Brownson Arena. They will open with Black Hills State on Friday at 5:30pm.
