GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – In a game where neither team shot above 33 percent from the field, Colorado Mesa prevailed with a 48-46 win over the visiting Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday evening in Brownson Arena in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Mavericks defense held up though, limiting the Cougars to 27.8 percent (15-for-54) from the field for the game. They added five steals and a blocked shot while scoring nine points off turnovers.
Colorado Mesa's rebounding effort may have saved them as they owned a 45-37 edge.
Offensively, the Mavericks shot 32.2 percent (19-for-59) from the field but just 19 percent (4-for-21) from beyond the arc after averaging nearly 35 percent for the season.
Jaylyn Duran was the lone Maverick in double-digits with 10 points while
Karina Brandon finished with nine points.
Erin Reichle finished with just seven points but tied her career-high with 10 rebounds and added two assists. The two assists gives her 315 for her career moving her into a third place tie with former teammate Sharaya Selsor.
Colorado Christian was led by Sarah McGinley who finished with a game-high 19 points.
Cougar Haley Shaner finished with a double-double picking up 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Mavericks moved their record to 13-4 on the season and 7-4 in the RMAC while Colorado Christian falls to 5-10 on the season and 3-7 in the conference.
Colorado Mesa will be on the road next week in the Front Range as they take on UCCS and MSU Denver on Friday and Saturday night.
