Men's Hoops Looks for the Upset

After splitting their games last weekend, the Mavericks come back home this weekend for two games against No. 22 Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and Colorado Christian University (CCU). All three teams are coming off a loss in their last games and are looking to rebound this weekend in a big way.

Colorado Mesa University will be first looking to pull off the upset against the Orediggers on Friday night. Currently the Orediggers hold a 12-2 overall record, including a 6-2 conference record. This puts them as one of the top 25 teams in the country and will be no easy task for the Mavericks. CSM currently has four players averaging double digit points in conference games this season, so the Mavericks will have their hands full defensively.

As for CCU, they are coming in with a 3-11 overall record and a 2-6 conference record. The Cougars have three starters averaging more than 14 points per game this season, but they rank as one of the worst teams in the conference at protecting the rim. Look for the Mavericks to attack the paint throughout the game and put pressure on the Cougars internal defense.

As for the Mavericks, they are hoping to put an end to their four-game home losing streak that dates back to Nov. 30. Connor Nichols has been playing well for the Mavericks as of late, increasing his points per game to 18.5, which is good for fifth best in the conference. This included a 30-point outburst against Regis last weekend.

Both games will be set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Brownson Arena following the women's games.
