GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The nation's 14
th-ranked Regis University Rangers overcame first and second deficits and used their blocking prowess to claim a 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over host Colorado Mesa University, Friday night in Brownson Arena. The Rangers improved to 11-1 overall and to 3-0 in RMAC play with their sixth straight victory.

The Mavericks, who had won six straight coming in, fell to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in RMAC play.

Regis, which leads the RMAC in blocking, recorded 11 on the night. The Rangers also hit an impressive .386 as a team while holding the Mavericks to just one block and a .113 attack percentage.

CMU's
MacKenzie Edwards led all players with 11 kills. She also hit .333 as did
Hattie Gianinetti, who finished the match with six kills.

Regis' Kelsey Green tallied 10 kills while Nikki Kennedy and Kristen Hornung were right behind with nine a piece. Kennedy recorded six blocks while Hornung registered four.

Taylor Woods led all players with 12.

The Mavericks were rolling and led 21-16 in the first set before the Rangers went on a 4-0 run to pull within one. They then committed one of their 14 service errors, which allowed CMU to go up 22-20. However, the Rangers continued what ended up being a 9-2 set-ending run with kills by Hornung and Caitlyn Martinez around a pair of Maverick hitting errors and went on to win the set.

The Mavericks would get out to a 13-10 lead in the second frame before a 7-0 Ranger run, sparked by back-to-back blocks gave the Rangers the momentum, that they would not relinquish as they hit .483 in the third and final set while cruising to the win.

The Mavericks will have less than 24 hours before attempting to bounce back against Chadron State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Eagles (4-7, 1-2 RMAC) snapped a 3-match slide with a 3-0 win at Western State Colorado on Friday.
