Thompson's Late Goal Gives CMU Third Straight Win

Some late game heroics were in order for the Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team on Thursday. With the game tied at 1-1 in the 86th minute against Rollins College, Lauren Thompson stepped up to the task. Thompson received a pass from Halie Bergeron and fired it in past the keeper to take the 2-1 lead with less than three minutes to go. The goal was Thompson's second of the season to tie her for the team lead.

The victory gave the women's team their third victory in a row and moved them to an overall record of 3-2. CMU was down early 1-0 in the game before an own goal by Rollins tied the game up at 1-1 going into halftime.

The Mavericks outshot the Sailors 16-11 in the game, including going 12-2 in the shots on goal category. Zoe Peterson led the team with 3 shots on goal for the Mavericks, with Thomspon coming in second with 2.

Jessica Jolley was in net for her third straight game, as she received her third win of the season. She finished the game playing all 90 minutes, giving up 1 goal and coming away with one save.

Following the victory the Mavericks will now look ahead to conference play, starting with Westminster on Sunday. The game is set to start at 2:30 p.m. over in Salt Lake City, Utah.
