Following a huge win on Friday night, the Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team didn't let up. They continued their hot start to the season defeating St. Mary's 3-1. The win moved the Mavericks to 4-0 on the season.
The Mavericks opened up the scoring in the 5th minute with a
Malik Mennana score off of a
Slater Elkind pass. That was Mennana's first goal of the season. CMU continued the scoring with a
Kevin Del Mazo shot from across the box to give them the 2-0 lead entering halftime.
In the second half, the Rattlers cut the lead in half after a free kick goal ended the shutout. However, an insurance goal in the 75th minute by
Moshe Perez gave the Mavericks the cushion they needed to secure the win.
During the game, the Mavericks outshot the Rattlers 14-7, including 9-2 in shots on goal.
Briley Guarneri was in net for the Mavericks as he received his 4th win of the season. Guarneri finished with 1 goal allowed and 1 save.
The Mavericks will open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday with a game against Colorado School of Mines. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at Walker Field.
