Gamble Hired as Track & Field Coach

Grand JunctionEagle native Brad Gamble will start on Monday, Aug. 14, as the new head coach for track and field at Colorado Mesa University. Gamble returns to Colorado after serving as the head track and field coach at Nebraska's Chadron State College for three of his six years there.

Gamble said he is very excited about joining CMU and returning to western Colorado.

"It's kind of a dream come true," Gamble said. "I've been in Nebraska for 12 years, when you include my schooling. I'm excited to continue where I first fell in love with track and field."

Gamble oversaw the program at Chadron State for three seasons, from 2014-2017. During that time, Chadron State student-athletes earned seven of the school's nine individual NCAA titles, earned NCAA runner-up five times and earned Chadron State's first-ever NCAA team trophy, in any sport, at the 2017 indoor national championships.

Under his watch, Chadron State brought home 17 All-American honors for indoor competition and 15 for outdoor track and field. The team also produced 11 individual Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champions for indoor season and 15 at the outdoor meets.

"We are really excited to have Brad on board," said CMU Athletic Co-director Kris Mort. "Being a Colorado native and an experienced coach in the RMAC, we think he will take our program in the direction we would like it to go.

Gamble replaces Brian Beeman, who returned to California. He will join track and field assistant coaches Katrice Thomas, Yasin Gulgan and Matt Canterbury, who is also the head coach for cross-country.

"Brad's disciplines fit very nicely with the current coaching staff," Mort said.
