DENVER, Colo. – The No. 10 Colorado Mesa baseball team fell 4-3 to the MSU Denver Roadrunners in the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon at the Regency Athletic Complex.
The two teams were locked in a seesaw battle with the score tied 3-3 after four innings of play.
Bligh Madris and
Will Dixon hit back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning followed by a
Greg Reynolds RBI single gave the Mavericks a 3-1 lead at the time.
MSU Denver was able to scratch across a run in the bottom half of the seventh inning and held on for the victory.
Colorado Mesa stranded five runners in the final five innings of play but none of those runners reached third base.
The Mavericks best opportunity to knot the game came in the eighth inning when Dixon led off the inning with a single and moved up on an error by the right fielder. He was left stranded as the next three batters all grounded out.
Reynolds, Dixon,
Zach McLeod and
Lane LaCrone each finished with two hits in the game.
Jake Mielock took the loss on the mound and dropped to 2-2 on the season.
Colorado Mesa finished the regular season with a 40-10 record and 32-4 in the conference.
The Mavericks will host the RMAC Tournament at Suplizio Field beginning this Wednesday at 7pm against an opponent yet to be determined at this point.
