Leahy Pitches Mavs to Tourney Win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – RMAC Pitcher of the Year Kyle Leahy pitched a complete game to lead Colorado Mesa to an 8-3 win over the Regis Rangers in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at Suplizio Field.

Leahy (11-0) allowed three runs on seven hits, walked no one and struck out 11 in the nine innings of work. The Boulder native allowed just a pair of singles after the fifth inning and retired the final 11 batters he faced.

The Rangers took the lead in the second inning on a home run by Andrew Bryniarski, his 10th of the season.

Colorado Mesa answered back with a long ball of their own. Andrew Contreras launched a no doubter over the wall in right field, his third of the season.

Bligh Madris gave the Mavericks their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third on a RBI single up the middle, scoring PJ Gonzalez.

Regis took their final lead of the game in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run by Ryan Tierney to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead.

The Mavericks took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring four runs on three hits. Contreras hit an RBI single and Zach McLeod had a two-run triple to center field. Lane LaCrone also added an RBI single in the inning.
