DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader from the MSU Denver Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon at the Regency Athletic Complex in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
In game one, the Mavericks scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and went on to win 5-3 over MSU Denver.
Sophomore
Tanner Rempel continues to swing a hot bat for the Mavericks. The reigning RMAC Player of the Week was 2-for-2 with two runs driven in and two walks.Â
PJ Gonzalez finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Gonzalez gave the Mavericks some insurance in the top of the sixth when he lifted a 1-1 pitch to left center for a home run.
Chris Ramirez earned the win and improved to 9-1 on the season. He allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out four in four innings of work.
Tyler Day earned his third save, striking out three in the seventh.
In the nightcap, Colorado Mesa scored three runs in the third and two in the fifth to cruise to a 7-2 win over the Roadrunners.
JR McDermott pitched five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked three and struck out nine to earn his seventh victory of the season.
Bligh Madris, Gonzalez and Rempel all homered for the Mavericks.
Madris finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Gonzalez was 1-for-2 with three runs scored.
The Mavericks reached the 40-win plateau with the doubleheader sweep and are now 40-9 on the year. MSU Denver stayed one game above .500 and are now 24-23 overall.
The two teams will close out the regular season with a nine inning game at 12pm.
