No. 1 Delta State vs. No. 2 CMU Tonight at the CWS

IN ROUND TWO
Colorado Mesa dropped a heart breaking 3-2, 10 inning decision to St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday evening. The Mavericks left 12 runners on base with eight of those coming in scoring position. JJ Carr and Kevan Elcock each delivered RBI singles in the game . JR McDermott pitched six and two-thirds, striking out nine but went deep into counts, driving up his pitch count. Tyler Day was tagged with his third loss of the season.

AGAINST THE STATESMEN
The Mavericks and Statesmen will meet for the first time in both program's illustrious history. Delta State won the 2004 College World Series while Colorado Mesa is seeking their first championship. The Statesman are 12-10 in their 12 year history in the CWS while the Mavericks are 5-5 in their three appearances dating back to their first appearance in 2009.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE
If the Mavericks were to win on Wednesday, they would advance to the NCAA Division II final four for the second time in program history where they would face West Chester. In 2014 they advanced to the final four where they defeated top-ranked Tampa to move into the title game. It would also mark the 50th win of the season for CMU, a mark they have never reached. The school record for wins is 49 that occured in the 2007 season.

MAJOR AWARD FINALISTS
Kyle Leahy and Bligh Madris were each named a first-team All-Region recipient on all three major outlets. Madris was named the Region Player of the Year by all three outlets and was also named a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award which is given to Division II's most outstanding player. Colorado Mesa's Austin Kaiser won the award in 2014. Leahy picked up ABCA Region Pitcher of the Year honors and was named a finalist for the Brett Tomko Award given to the most outstanding pitcher in Division II.

CENTURY MARK
Sophomore JR McDermott eclipsed the 100 strikeout mark with his first strikeout against St. Thomas Aquinas. He is the first Maverick pitcher to eclipse that mark since Nolan Snell did it in 2012. McDermott has 108 strikeouts this season.

EVERYDAY
Colorado Mesa played their first game of the season last night on a Tuesday. They have now played a game on every day of the week. They will play tonight at 6pm MDT and are 1-0 on Wednesday.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mavericks sit at No. 2 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspapaer rankings just behind No. 1 Delta State who staved off elimination on Monday by defeating No. 3 North Georgia. Colorado Mesa will play No. 1 Delta State in an elimination game tonight at AirHogs Stadium.

AFTER THE SIXTH
The Mavericks dropped their first game of the season when leading after six innings in the loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. They are now 43-1.

ALUMNI UPDATE
