Mavericks, Chaps Set for Friday Matchup

Rankings
Colorado Mesa enters the contest as the No. 3 ranked team in the D2Baseballnews.com poll as their highest ranking in the four national outlets while Lubbock Christian enters with a No. 11 ranking by Perfect Game.

All-Time Series: 2-0 Lubbock Christian
The Mavericks and the Chaps met for the first time as Division II counterparts in last season's NCAA South Central Region opener where Lubbock Christian outlasted Colorado Mesa 8-6 at Suplzio Field. The only other time the schools met was when they both were in the NAIA ranks with the Chaps coming out on top in that matchup.

Chaps First Round Matchup
Lubbock Christian came away with a 2-1 victory over rival West Texas A&M and improved to 3-0 on the season against the Buffs. Ricky Contreras pitched a complete game and allowed one run, on a solo home run, on six hits, walked one and struck out six. The Chaps scratched across a pair of runs against Region Pitcher of the Year Marshall Kasowski who pitched seven innings and struck out 13 in a losing effort.

Quick Hitters
- NCBWA and D2CCA Regional Player of the Year Bligh Madris didnt collect a hit in the regional opening win against St. Edward's but did drive in a pair of runs on a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly.
- Andrew Contreras had three hits including a double in last season's regional matchup with Lubbock Christian.
- JR McDermott will get the ball for the Mavericks against the Chaps. McDermott was slated to start against Lubbock Christian last season but an arm injury forced him out of the tournament a year ago.

What's Next
If Colorado Mesa wins, they will move onto the regional semifinals against either Angelo State should they win or an opponent to be determined later. If the Mavericks lose, they will play an elimination game tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm (CDT).
