GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team captured their fourth straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship with a 15-7 win over the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Saturday (May 13) at a windy Suplizio Field.
The Mavericks scored their 15 runs on 20 hits in the game where everyone who got a hit in the lineup finished with two or more hits.
Colorado Mesa opened the game up in the second inning with a five runs that came with two outs. A pair of Oredigger errors led to the five runs with
Tanner Rempel delivering the big hit in the inning, a two-run double to left center.
Rempel was named to the all-tournament team and finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and a double.
The Mavericks padded their lead in the fourth inning on a two-run homer by
Bligh Madris, who was later named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, to make it 9-4. The Henderson, Nev. product went 2-for-2 with four runs scored, two RBIs, and three walks in the game.
Later in the fourth, all-tournament team recipient
Zach McLeod ripped a RBI double to left center, scoring Rempel. McLeod finished 2-for-4 and the double was his 12
th of the season.
Senior
Kyle Serrano delivered the final big blow of the game in the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot to left field. Serrano was named to the all-tournament team went 3-for-5 in the game with three runs scored.
Jake Mielock picked up the win on the mound in relief. Mielock (3-2) went two and two-thirds innings and allowed just one hit and a walk while striking out three.
Senior
Tyler Day pitched the final two innings of perfect baseball, striking out a pair of Orediggers.
The Mavericks record moves to 44-10 on the season while Mines' drops to 32-22.
Colorado Mesa will wait for the selection show tomorrow evening at 8pm on NCAA.com to find out if they will host the South Central Region Tournament for the fourth straight season or head to Texas for the tournament.
