Dixon Delivers Walk-Off Win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Will Dixon's walk off single in the bottom of the ninth scored Bligh Madris from second to give the No. 15 Mavericks a thrilling 10-9 win over Colorado Christian on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

The Mavericks trailed 9-3 after four complete innings but battled back and held the Cougars to just one hit in the final five innings of play.

Colorado Mesa added runs in the sixth (two) and seventh (four) before the final run in the bottom of the ninth.

The breaking point for the Cougars came in the bottom of the seventh with a 9-7 lead. Pinch hitter Garrett Ball lifted a ball to short right field, the ball glanced off the glove of the second baseman, scoring two runners to tie the game.

Bligh Madris finished the game 1-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs driven in. Madris hit his ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning, a line shot to right field.

Zach McLeod had two hits in the game as did Andrew Contreras.

JR McDermott was brilliant in relief. The sophomore, a normal Saturday starter, was slated to work out of the bullpen in the game, pitched four shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, two walks and struck out six to earn his fourth win of the season.

Colorado Mesa moved their win streak to 11 games that dates back to a Monday loss to No. 20 Point Loma in mid-March. They are now 24-8 on the season and 16-2 in the RMAC, two games up in the standings.

The Mavericks will close out the weekend with a doubleheader beginning with Colorado Christian at 12pm. They will play Colorado Mines following the game at approximately 3:30pm.
